i think it depends on how experienced you are
if u have a good amount of experience then u should apply at a fanier resteraunt i think u should say wat kind of cooking u do
fish, italian, chinese if u can cook and prepare, u should apply at a kings fish house if ur just starting off maybe u should try a family resteraunt like dennys, cocos or mimis hope this helped good luck

I would recommend getting thru school first. Practice a lot at home. To this day I still practice my knife cuts.

Then when you graduate you will be required to do an externship. Usually 20-40 hours. Where you do your externship will depend on where you apply. Remember externships are usually non-paid positions. For the first few days I did nothing but cut carrots and prep pearl onions.

After you complete that you may be offered a permanent position. But you will not start off as a chef, sous chef, or even line cook. You’ll be in prep. So choose a restaurant that creates food you are interested in and enjoy doing.

Then one day a line cook will call in sick and you’ll be asked to step in and help out. Time to shine, but be humble.

    You’ll do fine :)

Well, obviously do not do any fast food restaurants. You want to be able to use the skills that you be acquiring plus, if you pick more close to an upscale restaurant you will be able to utilize these skills plus learn hands on that will help you with your studies. I assume this is your first year of culinary study so, when you do apply at a restaurant let the chef know what classes you are taking and what you plan for your future in the culinary industry. He just may want to take you under his wing and make you the next Gordon Ramsey or Wolfgang Puck. Good Luck!!
