I used to live in Philly, but never really explored the Italian culinary goldmines of South Philadelphia too often. I’m looking for recommendations for excellent casual Italian restaurants in the Italian Market area.
That may sound like a dumb question, but last week I could only find a couple high-end restaurants. I ended up going to Anastasi’s and their pappardelle was exquisite.
I’m looking for other options.
Thank you everybody for your answers so far. I did go to Ralph’s this past Saturday for dinner. I had the Spaghetti & Meatballs and I think I should go back and try something else.
It wasn’t bad, It just didn’t blow me away as that dish I had at Anastasi’s did. The atmosphere was great and the service was ok (maybe because I was reppin the Yankees)
Italian Market area eats (casual Italian dining question)?

how about Dante & Luigi’s? my father-in-law used to eat there quite often. i ate there only once before i moved out of the area to upstate PA but i think it was great. they are located at 762 S 10th St. their number is (215) 922-9501 since i forget if they take reservations or not. also, friends of ours were in Philly and they asked for suggestions where to eat. i told them Dante & Luigi’s as well. they said they both had wonderful meals.

Check out the travel section…I recommended Ralph’s, but this poster is right as well…I do think that they may have changed their name though (Dante & Luigi I mean).

I live in the Italian Market neighborhood. right behind Ralphs and a block from Dantes. Both are fine….but for no nonsense, homecooked Gravy dishes(sauce) go to Villa De Roma on 9th st. The food is Great and prices reasonable. Mangi!

Ralph’s is still in Philly. Good, inexpensive and traditional South Philly.

I’ve always had a great meal at Villa D’Roma’s on 9th. Excellent food, casual atmosphere, and try the spinach in oil! To die for!
