Opinions: Should I learn Italian or French?

12 Jul

I’m a native english speaker and already know spanish (at least enough to be conversational) and am going to be studying abroad down in Argentina for a few months and wanted to take a language class while I’m down there. The catch, obviously, is that the class will be taught in Spanish haha, how cool is that?

Anyway, I can’t decide between italian and french. In my opinion, Italy has way better music, but I love love LOVE to cook and french obviously has some pretty strong ties to the culinary world. Which would you rather learn?

Where can I find REAL authentic Italian food in San Diego?

25 Jun

Most of the restaurant reviews I’ve read focus on decor and portions. I’m looking for the FOOD. I just finished reading the book “Playing for Pizza” by John Grisham and the culinary descriptions have me wanting to try the real stuff …. beyond pizza and spaghetti.

We have our project in Culinary, it’s about making a menu of a restaurant. The name of the restaurant should attract the customers in the first place that’s why I want the name to be perfect. My specialties are pasta, and i guess it’s an Italian Restaurant. We need to tell the history on how we came up with that name. So, I need an Italian name wherein when you translate it in english, it’s sound good or delicious…

I’m looking forward to your answers. Thanks in Advance.

Italian Market area eats (casual Italian dining question)?

09 May

I used to live in Philly, but never really explored the Italian culinary goldmines of South Philadelphia too often. I’m looking for recommendations for excellent casual Italian restaurants in the Italian Market area.
That may sound like a dumb question, but last week I could only find a couple high-end restaurants. I ended up going to Anastasi’s and their pappardelle was exquisite.
I’m looking for other options.
Thank you everybody for your answers so far. I did go to Ralph’s this past Saturday for dinner. I had the Spaghetti & Meatballs and I think I should go back and try something else.
It wasn’t bad, It just didn’t blow me away as that dish I had at Anastasi’s did. The atmosphere was great and the service was ok (maybe because I was reppin the Yankees)

Does anyone know where I can purchase a really old cookbook, “The Italian Cookbook” published in 1956?

03 May

I am looking for an old cookbook from 1956. The title is “The Italian Cookbook” Published by The Culinary Arts Institute. It is labeled No. 106, I think that is the volume. Can anyone tell me where I can purchase one or multiple copies of this book. I was trying to find contact information for the publishing company but I can’t find it. I found one or two copies on ebay, but I need 12 copies total. Let me know if anyone knows anything.
